Does the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore need a photo for a passport renewal?
TL;DR No — the Embassy photographs you at your appointment. Its requirement list for an adult renewal has no photograph on it. The Indonesian e-Visa (for foreigners going to Indonesia) is a separate matter and asks for "a recent color photograph" with no size published outside its login.
Passport: the Embassy's list
Appointment, personal appearance, the form, the old passport, and supporting identity documents. The photograph is captured at the Embassy as part of the biometric enrolment — the same model as Malaysia's, Bangladesh's, the Philippines' and Thailand's missions in Singapore.
e-Visa: what is public and what is not
The Directorate General of Immigration's public e-Visa pages ask for "a recent color photograph" and publish no dimensions. The detailed upload rules sit behind the portal sign-in. A figure circulating outside those pages puts the head at 50–60% of the image — smaller than the usual 70–80% — but it is on no official page we could read, so the Indonesian visa page on this site carries a warning rather than that number.
Indonesia's two documents
| Document | Size | Head in frame (as we compose it) | Background | Max age | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Indonesia passport | 51 × 51 mm | 60–80% | plain white | 6 months | kemlu.go.id |
| Indonesia visa | 35 × 45 mm | 60–80% | plain white (some categories use red) | 6 months | evisa.imigrasi.go.id |
A real case
An Indonesian domestic worker renewing her passport was told by a friend to bring six 4 × 6 cm photos. The Embassy took one on a camera at the desk and asked for none of hers.
Common questions
- Which visa types use a red background?
- Some Indonesian domestic documents do. For the e-Visa upload, the public page specifies only "colour"; the portal's own rules govern.
- I am Singaporean visiting Indonesia. Do I need a visa photo at all?
- Singapore passport holders are visa-exempt for short visits; no photo is involved.
